Punjab Declares Holiday for Bhagat Singh’s 119th Birth Anniversary
The Punjab government has declared a public holiday across the state on Monday, September 28, 2026. The holiday marks the 119th birth anniversary of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh. All government offices, boards, corporations, PSUs and educational institutions will remain closed.
Schools, colleges and universities in Punjab are closed today. Essential services will function as normal. The closure follows the September 28, 1907 birth of Bhagat Singh. The order was issued by the Department of General Administration, Holidays Branch, on September 27.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the Punjab government marked the anniversary with official tributes. They honoured Bhagat Singh's legacy as Shaheed-e-Azam. A grand 'Jashan-e-Inquilab' programme is being held at the Punjab Agricultural University ground in Ludhiana from 3 pm.
The programme features the play Gagan Damama Bajio. Artists including Ranjit Bawa and Kulwinder Billa will perform. CM Mann, ministers and MLAs are participating in the event.
The day is observed every year to recall Bhagat Singh's role in India's freedom struggle.
