Shooter Esha Singh won the silver medal in the women's 25m pistol event at the Asian Games on Monday after surviving multiple shoot-offs before finishing second at Aichi-Nagoya.

Esha qualified for the eight-shooter final in 8th place with 580-22x, then beat North Korea's Kim Hyon Suk in a shoot-off — a tie-break round — after the two tied on 34 hits, according to IANS. In the gold-medal contest she tied China's Xiao Jiaruixuan 38-all before losing the deciding shoot-off 3-2.

The silver is Esha's third Asian Games medal, after individual and team silver in the 10m air pistol at Hangzhou 2023. She is also a world record holder in the event, according to reports.

India's overall Asian Games tally reached 39 medals, including four golds and 17 silvers, after her medal. Her silver continues India's strong run in shooting at the Games, where the country has regularly been among the top medal winners. Esha will now look to convert near-misses into gold in upcoming international events.
