Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered officials to prepare material for a possible International Criminal Court case against Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Israeli broadcaster i24NEWS reported Sunday.

According to the report, Netanyahu asked an interministerial team and the head of the Justice Ministry’s international law department to compile allegations about Turkey’s treatment of Kurds and claims that Ankara funds Hamas. The report said Israel might file through a third country and hoped the threat would deter further moves by Ankara.

Neither Netanyahu’s office nor the Justice Ministry commented, and no filing has been recorded, according to the report. Neither Israel nor Turkey has signed the Rome Statute that created the court. The report follows Thursday’s UN General Assembly clash, where Netanyahu called Erdogan a “tyrant” who hosts Hamas leaders and Turkish officials rejected the remarks as baseless.

The report said the order came after Erdogan sought an Interpol Red Notice for Netanyahu, deepening the two leaders’ escalating feud.

The reported order shows how the Israel-Turkey feud is expanding into legal warfare. With neither country under ICC jurisdiction, the dossier looks aimed at deterrence rather than a courtroom.
