Sanaa: Yemen’s Houthis say Saudi airstrikes on a market in Taiz killed seven people and wounded 40 on Sunday, in an attack they blame on Riyadh.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said two Saudi air raids hit the Mawiya junction market in Taiz province, claiming a Saudi F-15 squadron carried out the strikes. He warned the attack would have ‘severe consequences’.

The Houthi-run health ministry said five children were among the wounded. Overall, the group said nearly 50 people were killed or wounded, though independent confirmation was not available.

Yemen’s internationally recognised government gave a different account, saying its forces had targeted a Houthi military camp and vehicles at the same junction. Three military sources told Reuters the militants had recently set up a camp near the market.

The strikes came as fighting intensified across Yemen after a truce broke down. Saudi Arabia had said on Saturday it intercepted two Houthi drones heading toward Riyadh.

The conflicting accounts underline how hard it is to verify claims from Yemen’s war.
