India began their three-match ODI series against the West Indies with an eight-wicket win at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday, September 27. Chasing 296, the hosts finished on 300 for 2 in 41.4 overs, with 50 balls to spare.

Captain Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli led the chase with superb centuries. Gill made 110 off 108 balls, his tenth ODI hundred, while Kohli stayed unbeaten on 139 off 88 balls — his 55th ODI century, according to ESPNcricinfo. During the innings, Kohli also crossed 15,000 ODI runs, becoming only the second men’s batter to reach the mark.

Earlier, the West Indies posted 295 for 7 after India chose to bowl. Amir Jangoo’s unbeaten 58 could not push the visitors further. The series now moves to Guwahati for the second ODI on September 30.
