Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia’s The Vvaan: Force of the Forrest has collected Rs 31.94 crore net in India over its opening weekend, Bollywood Hungama reported. The supernatural thriller, directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra, released on September 25 and gained pace through the weekend.

Trade estimates put the opening day at around Rs 8 crore, with stronger collections on Saturday and Sunday, Bollywood Hungama reported. PinkVilla estimated the three-day nett at Rs 31.75 crore. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh noted strong shows in non-national chains and Tier 2 and Tier 3 centres.

The weekend is the best ever for a film led solely by Sidharth Malhotra. It beat his previous best, Param Sundari, which collected Rs 28.48 crore in three days, by Rs 3.46 crore, or 12.15 per cent, according to Bollywood Hungama. It also crossed the opening weekends of Thank God and Kapoor & Sons.

The result matters because the film now faces a test on Monday. A strong weekday hold will decide whether the promising start turns into a sustained hit, with Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam: The Conclusion looming.
