The makers of Ramayana are planning a worldwide release of the film on Thursday, November 5, three days before Diwali, according to a Bollywood Hungama report. The plan would see the Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi starrer open in India and overseas on the same day.

The film was earlier expected to release overseas on November 6 and in India on November 8. The report says stakeholders are broadly on board with the new date, with an official announcement to follow final approval. Dharma Productions will distribute the film in India, and Sony Pictures handles overseas rights.

A pre-Diwali release would break with industry convention: since 2014, most major Diwali releases have opened a day after the festival because audiences are thought to stay home for puja and festivities. An industry insider quoted in the report said the move shows the makers’ confidence in the film, with the November 9 post-Diwali holiday expected to push collections higher.

Separately, Sony Pictures Australia has already locked November 5 for the film’s Australian release, a day before the wider international rollout and Godzilla Minus Zero. Why it matters: an early global opening would give the epic the longest possible festive window.
