President Donald Trump told Fox News on September 27 that he would have dinner with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei on Sunday night, a first one-on-one meeting between the two leaders at the White House.

Trump spoke from the Presidents Cup in Illinois. “We’re about maybe a year and a half up on China,” he told Fox News. “We’re leading, and we’re building tremendous, trillions of dollars’ worth of places. And why should we give that up?” He said new regulations would let China outpace the US in AI.

Trump acknowledged Amodei’s concern that moving too fast could expand risks but said maintaining the technological edge matters more. On rogue AI agents, he told Fox News: “I don’t worry about it,” expressing confidence in the technology.

Axios first broke the news of the dinner, and TechCrunch confirmed it with a source familiar with the plans. What was actually discussed at the dinner has not yet been reported. Bill Gates said on NBC’s Meet the Press, which aired Sunday, that he would like to meet Trump to discuss AI, and a larger White House gathering of AI CEOs is expected on Tuesday.
