Wingsuit BASE jumper, 27, dies after failed jump in Utah
A 27-year-old experienced wingsuit BASE jumper died on Sunday after his wingsuit failed to generate enough lift on a jump of about 700 feet east of Millville Canyon near Leetham’s Hollow in Cache County, Utah. He struck the ground at high speed and died at the scene.
Cache County Search and Rescue was alerted at about 9:10 a.m. Sunday. A Life Flight helicopter and a Department of Public Safety helicopter responded, but the man was declared dead on scene.
He was part of a group of 8 to 10 people wingsuit BASE jumping. His name is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin. Cache County Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Doyle Peck said he did not have enough lift with his wingsuit.
No coroner’s finding has been released beyond the sheriff’s on-scene statement.
The site is popular with BASE jumpers. This incident is separate from a Friday BASE-jumping death near Willard Peak in Box Elder County.
