49ers Hold Off Cardinals 36-30 to Stay Unbeaten
The San Francisco 49ers improved to 3-0 on Sunday with a hard-fought 36-30 win over the Arizona Cardinals at Levi's Stadium. The game stayed close until the final seconds.
Quarterback Brock Purdy threw for 297 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions. George Kittle caught two touchdown passes, including the game-sealing score with 1:31 left in the fourth quarter.
The 49ers raced to a 14-0 lead, but the Cardinals clawed back. Arizona's Jacoby Brissett threw for 280 yards and two touchdowns, and rookie Jeremiyah Love added 119 total yards and a score. The Cardinals cut the lead to 36-30 on a 49-yard field goal with 34 seconds left.
Deebo Samuel recovered the onside kick attempt to end the comeback. The win was costly for San Francisco: wide receiver Mike Evans left with a rib injury and did not return, and kicker Eddy Pineiro missed two extra points.
The 1-2 Cardinals dropped to a distant fourth in the NFC West. The 49ers will host the Denver Broncos next Sunday.
