Russia has invited North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to visit the country, with the dates to be fixed through diplomatic channels. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko confirmed the invitation on September 24, telling state news agency Tass that Russia would always be glad to welcome the leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Rudenko said the 2024 Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership had raised traditionally friendly ties to what he called a qualitatively new level of alliance. He added that both sides were working to expand trade, economic and scientific-technical cooperation, according to reports by Korea JoongAng Daily and Aju Press.

President Vladimir Putin first invited Kim during his visit to Pyongyang in June 2024 and repeated the offer when the two leaders met in Beijing in September 2025. Speculation about a visit grew after North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui travelled to Moscow in July and met Putin. Kim has visited Russia twice, in 2019 and 2023, but both trips were to the country's Far East, never Moscow.

A visit would cap months of deepening military and economic ties between Moscow and Pyongyang, including reported North Korean troop support for Russia's war in Ukraine.
