Resident doctors at AIIMS Jodhpur went on an indefinite strike on September 23 after a first-year anaesthesia resident died on duty on September 22. Dr Raj Naresh Yadav, 31, was found unconscious in a doctors' rest-area washroom and was declared dead at the emergency department.

Police suspect suicide and are investigating. Doctors have suspended routine outpatient and elective surgery services, though emergency care continues. The association held a candle march and demanded accountability, systemic reforms and the resignation of the executive director.

The doctors sought an inquiry into the death, Rs 5 crore compensation for the family and better working conditions. Residents allege 36-hour shifts without adequate rest. The institute has formed an in-house inquiry committee to probe the death.

The institute asked doctors to resume duties, assuring their concerns would be addressed. The doctors have said the strike will continue until all demands are met. The tragedy has reignited a national debate on resident doctors' long hours and mental-health support.
