Mandhana blitz seals India’s second Asian Games cricket gold
India's women crushed Sri Lanka by 147 runs to win a second straight Asian Games cricket gold at Korogi Sports Park on September 22, powered by Smriti Mandhana's brilliant 79 off 45 balls.
India posted 216 for 3 in 20 overs, the highest women's total in Asian Games history. Mandhana hit five fours and seven sixes, adding 99 for the opening wicket with Shafali Verma, who made 48. Richa Ghosh finished unbeaten on 49 off 22 balls.
Sri Lanka were bowled out for 69 in 15.4 overs. Deepti Sharma led the attack with 3 for 6, Shafali Verma also struck with her off-spin, and captain Chamari Athapaththu top-scored with 29 for the losers.
It was India's first gold of the Aichi-Nagoya Games, and Mandhana also became the first woman to reach 11,000 international runs. The win extended India's T20I winning streak to eight matches ahead of a busy international season.
