Major television networks plan to restart shared coverage of President Donald Trump on Sunday, even though CNN remains excluded from the White House television pool.

ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News and NBC normally rotate pool duties and share footage. They had suspended the pool to pressure the administration to restore CNN’s access after Trump barred its journalists from White House grounds.

The protest left parts of Trump’s summit with Chinese leader Xi Jinping without pool coverage. According to the New York Times, network leaders questioned whether they could sustain the suspension indefinitely.

Under the emerging plan, the other four networks would return to pool duties. When CNN’s turn in the rotation comes up, the group will decide whether to supply a substitute crew. Otherwise CNN’s slot may go unfilled.

A federal judge had ordered the access of CNN, MS NOW and Politico temporarily restored. But the White House then barred CNN from flying on Air Force One to Tennessee on Saturday, leaving no television pool coverage of the trip.

The networks said in a joint statement that no administration should ban a news organization because it objects to its reporting.
