World champions Spain beat England 3-2 at Wembley on Saturday in the opening round of the UEFA Nations League. Mikel Oyarzabal struck the winner in the 74th minute as Spain punished two costly errors by Thomas Tuchel's England.

Spain raced ahead after just two minutes when Lamine Yamal capitalised on a Marc Guehi mistake deep inside the England half. England hit back through Anthony Gordon's 36th-minute equaliser and a Harry Kane header four minutes later, but Kane then missed a penalty off the crossbar.

Substitute Alex Baena levelled in the 60th minute after a misplaced pass by Nico O'Reilly, and Oyarzabal dinked the winner over goalkeeper James Trafford. The result stretched Spain's unbeaten run to 39 matches, a record for a European team.

The defeat denied England a memorable comeback in their first game since their World Cup semi-final loss to Argentina. Tuchel said his side dominated after the first 10 minutes, but individual mistakes cost them. England now regroup as Group A3 continues.
