A woman dubbed “mom of the year” by San Francisco Giants announcers is defending her husband after a viral broadcast clip sparked online backlash.
Erika Alvarez was carrying their baby daughter Anastasia and an armful of food back to her seat at Tuesday’s Giants game against Minnesota when cameras caught her husband Ramses eating without helping. Announcers Mike Krukow and Duane Kuiper joked about the scene and praised Erika as a multitasking mother.
The clip spread widely, and many viewers criticized Ramses. In a Substack post on Friday, Erika said the broadcast did not show the full story.
She explained she had taken the baby to the restroom and offered to pick up food on the way back. Ramses asked whether she wanted to eat first, offered to take the containers, and offered to feed her. She declined because she had eaten before the game and he had not had a full meal all day.
“Ramses is an amazing husband and an even better father,” she wrote. She added that she suggested the outing because he had lost a childhood friend. “The camera showed what I was carrying in my hands. It couldn’t show what he was carrying that night.”
