Two giant pandas on loan from China landed at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on September 27, 2026, bound for Zoo Atlanta. The pandas, male Ping Ping and female Fu Shuang, arrived on a dedicated FedEx Boeing 777 dubbed the FedEx Panda Express, with transportation donated by FedEx. They departed Chengdu at 2:55 a.m. local time for a nearly 16-hour journey. The pair will live at Zoo Atlanta for 10 years under an international cooperative research agreement with the China Wildlife Conservation Association. Both were born in 2020 at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Chinese President Xi Jinping announced the loan during his three-day summit with President Donald Trump in Washington, calling the pandas an envoy of friendship. Zoo Atlanta returned its previous pandas to China in 2024, ending a 25-year agreement. It is now one of three US zoos to house giant pandas and the only one in the Southeast. The pandas will enter quarantine before meeting the public.
