Thieves who stole two trailers branded with the Nvidia logo got a surprise: each was loaded with about 20,000 pounds of sand. The trailers belonged to PlusAI, a self-driving truck developer working with Nvidia on AI software and autonomous truck technology. They were parked outside the company’s warehouse in Newark, California, when someone hooked up their own cabs and drove off. Police recovered both trailers nearby. The hand locks securing them had been broken. A spokesperson said PlusAI uses simulated loads in its trailers to assist with research and development testing. The trailers were recovered with 40,000 pounds of sand intact. The company’s tech-enabled truck cabs, parked inside the warehouse, were not taken. No arrests have been made, Fremont police said. The case is under investigation. The incident comes amid rising theft targeting high-value tech equipment.
