Pearl Jam surprised fans at the Ohana Festival on Friday by bringing out a new drummer: longtime Paul McCartney drummer Abe Laboriel Jr. The set was billed as Eddie Vedder and Friends at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, California. Instead, Vedder was joined by his Pearl Jam bandmates, opening with Corduroy before playing Hail, Hail, Scared of Fear, Wishlist, and Dark Matter. It was the band’s first live show since Matt Cameron left in July 2025 after 27 years. Vedder introduced Laboriel as filling in tonight, so it is unclear whether he is the permanent replacement. Laboriel has played with McCartney since 2001 and has toured with Sting and Eric Clapton. He previously worked with Vedder on the singer’s 2022 solo album Earthling, which gave the pairing a natural fit. Pearl Jam headlines Ohana again on Sunday night, their only other scheduled show of 2026, and fans will be watching to see if Laboriel returns.
