Focus Features has released a second trailer for Werwulf, Robert Eggers’ medieval werewolf film, timed to the September full moon. The new footage gives a clearer look at the story ahead of the film’s December 25 theatrical release. Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays a cursed farmer, with Lily-Rose Depp as his wife and Willem Dafoe as a knight hunting the wolves plaguing the region. The studio has tied the entire marketing campaign to lunar cycles. The first trailer arrived June 29, a poster followed July 29, merchandise dropped August 28, and now the second trailer lands on another full moon. Alongside the trailer, Focus announced a Werwulf alternate reality game with three full-moon challenges in September, October, and November. Players get 24 hours each round to find hidden signs online for a chance to unlock a mystery prize. Eggers co-wrote the film with Sjon. It follows The Witch, The Lighthouse, and Nosferatu as the director’s latest take on classic horror folklore.
