Single-Dose In Vivo CAR-T Shows 90% Response in Myeloma Trial

An experimental cancer therapy that turns a patient’s own cells into treatment inside the body has shown a 90% response rate in early human trials, the company behind it said.
IASO Bio presented first-in-human Phase 1 data for IASO206, its BCMA-targeted in vivo CAR-T therapy, at the 2026 International Myeloma Society annual meeting. The results were shared by Dr Wenqiang Yan of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences in a late-breaking session.
A single intravenous infusion generated functional CAR-T cells inside patients without lymphodepleting chemotherapy — the harsh pre-treatment standard CAR-T requires. The therapy targets BCMA, a protein found on myeloma cells.
In 10 patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma, the objective response rate was 90%, and 90% reached MRD negativity, meaning no detectable cancer traces. Both rates hit 100% in the high-dose group. Most patients had high-risk disease and had already failed multiple therapies.
The study is small and early, and IASO Bio’s own release notes the results need larger trials to confirm. If they hold, the therapy could make CAR-T simpler, faster and far cheaper than today’s lab-built versions.
