Lakhs of medical aspirants are eagerly awaiting the NEET PG 2026 answer key, with the provisional key expected to be released anytime soon by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS).

The postgraduate medical entrance examination was conducted on August 30, and candidates have since been watching for the response sheets and answer key that let them estimate their scores before the official result.

What candidates will be able to check

Once released, the provisional answer key will allow candidates to match their responses against the officially recorded correct options. NBEMS typically publishes the key along with individual response sheets on its official website.

Candidates will need their application number and password to log in and download these documents. Going through them carefully is the first step toward calculating a probable score and deciding on next moves.

If a candidate spots what they believe is an error in the provisional key, NBEMS opens a challenge window. Objections can be raised online within the stipulated deadline, usually against a fee per question, and subject experts review each challenge before the final key is prepared.

Result timeline and what follows

The final answer key, published after all objections are examined, forms the basis of the NEET PG result. Scorecards and merit lists are then released, along with the qualifying cut-off marks for various categories.

Qualified candidates move on to counselling. Half of the seats are filled through All India Quota counselling conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee, while the rest go through state-level counselling rounds. The choice-filling stage rewards candidates who research colleges, branches and previous cut-offs in advance.

Experts advise aspirants to keep their documents ready, including the MBBS degree, internship completion certificate, registration certificate and category certificates, so that counselling registration goes smoothly when the schedule is announced.

Until the key arrives, candidates should rely only on official NBEMS notifications and avoid rumours about dates circulating on social media.
