Fellhauer scores fastest Bundesliga goal in 8 seconds

Augsburg’s Robin Fellhauer etched his name into Bundesliga history on Saturday, scoring after just eight seconds against Bayern Munich – the fastest goal the league has ever seen. The strike came straight from kickoff: Bayern played the ball back to goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, whose attempted chipped clearance went horribly wrong, allowing Fellhauer to pounce and score.

Despite the dream start, the match ultimately ended 2-2 in Augsburg. The Bavarians, whose only league defeat in their last 48 matches had come against Augsburg in January, raised their game after the break. Bayern had an effort ruled offside in the 51st minute before Ismael Saibari bagged the equaliser four minutes later.

Neuer’s nightmare evening

It was another Neuer error that put Augsburg ahead again in the 64th minute – the 40-year-old punched Calvin Brackelmann’s shot into the path of Rodrigo Ribeiro, who simply pushed the ball over the line. Bayern fought back once more when Harry Kane, who had hit the woodwork in the first half, cut the ball back for Nathaniel Brown to tap in the equaliser 10 minutes from time. Substitute Serge Gnabry hit the post three minutes from the end, but Bayern had to settle for a point.

Title race takes shape

The draw leaves Bayern second on 11 points, two behind leaders Borussia Dortmund, who sit top on 13. It was the second time in five games that Bayern dropped points this season. Coach Vincent Kompany had called the trip to Augsburg a “priority game” after last season’s loss there – and he could hardly have imagined a worse start. Elsewhere, Bayer Leverkusen, the only team to break Bayern’s dominance in any of the last 14 seasons, held on for a 4-3 win in Mainz to continue their upturn under coach Carles Martinez. Livan Burcu scored late for Union Berlin to beat promoted Elversberg 1-0 for their first win of the season, while Stuttgart drew 2-2 in Paderborn and Hamburger SV drew at Hoffenheim by the same scoreline.
