Seemapuri Building Collapse: Death Toll Rises to Five

The death toll in the New Seemapuri building collapse rose to five on Thursday after rescue teams recovered two more bodies from the debris.
The four-storey residential building in northeast Delhi collapsed at around 3:30 p.m. on October 7. Officials said one or two more people may still be trapped.
The two bodies recovered on Thursday were identified as Nusrat alias Guria and Hajra Bibi, according to officials. Earlier victims included 21-year-old Gulafsa, who was four months pregnant, a 12-year-old girl and a child aged about one-and-a-half years.
Eight injured people were pulled from the rubble and taken to the Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital in Tahirpur. Rescue teams from the NDRF, Delhi Fire Service, police and disaster management authority are at the site.
Officials are probing two suspected causes: vibrations from demolition work at an adjoining building and cracks caused by the recent Chamoli earthquake. The municipal body said the building was 20 to 25 years old and stood on a plot of about 22 to 25 square yards.
