VVS Laxman part of selection meetings, says BCCI secretary

VVS Laxman has been attending national selection meetings, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said. Laxman heads the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
Saikia said Laxman’s inputs help the selectors track young talent coming through the system. The Centre of Excellence works with emerging players on fitness and skills. His presence links the development pathway with the national team setup.
Officials said the arrangement is working well. Selectors get first-hand reports on players rising through age-group and domestic cricket.
Cricket experts said the move brings more data into selection calls. They added that clear roles will keep the process smooth and avoid confusion. The new selection panel will continue the practice. The Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru trains India’s upcoming cricketers. It offers facilities for fitness, skills and match practice. Officials said the link between the centre and selectors will be strengthened further.
The Centre of Excellence also handles injury rehabilitation for contracted players. Laxman has pushed for better sports science support at the facility. Young cricketers said his mentorship has helped their game awareness.
