Noida airport to be named after PM Modi, says Yogi Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday announced that the upcoming airport at Noida-Jewar will be named the Narendra Modi International Airport. He made the announcement during an event in Noida.
The Chief Minister said the naming marks 25 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public service. The airport at Jewar is one of India’s largest greenfield airport projects.
The airport was opened in March 2026 and began operations on June 15. In its first phase, it can handle 12 million passengers a year. Plans are in place to expand capacity to 30 million passengers a year as demand grows.
Officials said the airport is expected to ease the load on Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. It will serve Noida, Greater Noida and the wider western Uttar Pradesh region.
The naming decision has drawn both praise and criticism. Supporters call it a fitting tribute to the Prime Minister. Opposition leaders questioned the practice of naming public infrastructure after serving leaders. The state government has not announced a formal renaming date.
