Sooryavanshi, 15, pushes case for India XI in Ranchi nets

Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has given India's selectors a happy headache with a stunning nets session in Ranchi ahead of the second T20I against the West Indies.
The teenager repeatedly cleared the boundary during an intense practice hit, sending balls into the stands and drawing crowds of police officers, fans and media to the nets. With Sanju Samson managing only 11 runs in India's eight-wicket win in the Lucknow opener, speculation is mounting that Sooryavanshi could be drafted into the playing eleven.
Sooryavanshi's rise has been meteoric. He won the IPL Orange Cap in 2026 with 776 runs in 16 innings and smashed an unbeaten 175 off 80 balls in the Under-19 World Cup final.
Legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev has urged patience, though. "It's too early. Does he have the ability? Yes. But there have been so many in cricket who came with so much ability, then faded out," he told the Times of India, citing Vinod Kambli as a cautionary tale.
