Sensex Jumps 800 Points In Rebound After Thursday’s Rout

Indian equity benchmarks rebounded sharply on Friday after a brutal selloff dragged the Sensex to a 32-month low and the Nifty to an 18-month low. At 10.35 a.m., the Sensex was up 809 points, or 1.13 per cent, at 72,390, while the Nifty rose 261 points, or 1.17 per cent, to 22,490.
The recovery came after Thursday’s rout, when the Sensex slumped 1,045 points to close at 71,593 and the Nifty fell 371 points to 22,231. Analysts said deeply oversold conditions triggered a technical bounce, though they warned the broader trend remains weak.
Pressure points stayed in place. Brent crude hovered near $104 a barrel after a 4 per cent jump, and foreign investors sold a net Rs 12,944 crore of Indian equities on Thursday — their biggest single-day outflow since May 29. Domestic institutions bought Rs 10,703 crore, cushioning the fall.
IT stocks stayed under pressure after TCS reported its weakest September-quarter revenue growth in three years. Investors now watch whether the rebound holds through the session or fades into another sell-on-rally.
