Google’s Playground Turns AI Prompts Into Playable Games

Google Labs has launched Playground, a browser platform that turns text descriptions into playable games with no coding. It opened on October 7 in the US for users 18 and older.

Users describe a game in plain language — “make the character double jump,” “change the physics so objects bounce higher” — and the AI builds and adjusts it live. Games run in the browser on phones and laptops, and can stay private, be shared by link or published to an Explore gallery.

Selected genres support multiplayer and leaderboards through Google Play Games. Creation uses weekly tokens, with higher limits for Google One AI subscribers. A more advanced Unity Spark tier enters closed beta later in 2026.

Roblox shares fell as much as 8 percent after the announcement. Early testers praise the idea but report clunky gameplay and cover art that looks better than the games themselves.

Google describes Playground as an experiment from its Labs division, separate from the main games business. The company says it will use feedback from early users to shape the platform before expanding it to more countries.
