The 2026 Nobel Peace Prize winner will be announced today at 2:30 PM IST (11:00 AM CEST) at the Norwegian Nobel Institute in Oslo, with committee chair Jørgen Watne Frydnes making the announcement.

The committee received 287 nominations this year — 208 individuals and 79 organisations. Nominee names stay sealed for 50 years, though public figures such as US President Donald Trump have claimed nominations.

Trump made a last-minute pitch on October 7, saying he had “settled eight wars” and calling it “a great discredit” if his record is ignored. Last year’s winner, Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, later gifted her medal to Trump during an Oval Office visit.

But historian Oivind Stenersen told Le Monde that Trump has “no chance,” arguing the award could serve as a counterweight to US foreign policy. The winner gets a gold medal, diploma and 12 million Swedish crowns, about $1.2 million. The ceremony is held on December 10 at Oslo City Hall.
