Milan faces 24-hour ATM transport strike today

Milan’s public transport network faces a 24-hour strike on Friday, October 9, with possible disruption to the metro, buses and trams run by city operator ATM.
The strike was called by the unions AL Cobas and Confial Trasporti. Services are guaranteed only from the start of the day until 8:45 am, and between 3 pm and 6 pm. Outside those bands, metro lines M1 to M5, trams and buses may run reduced or stop.
The unions cite a long list of demands. These include opposition to privatisation of ATM services, worker safety, vehicle cleaning, holiday entitlement, converting part-time contracts to full-time, and a net pay rise of 150 euros.
The stoppage affects all five metro lines and surface routes. The M4 Blue Line, which links Linate airport to central Milan in about 12 minutes, is also hit.
Travellers catching flights between 8:45 am and 3 pm or after 6 pm should allow extra time and check ATM’s live updates.
