WSJ: Guilfoyle sought $100,000, offered Trump access

US ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle asked a Republican donor to pay $100,000 toward her American Express bill while offering access to Trump administration officials, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The Journal reviewed hundreds of text messages, emails and letters. It reported that Guilfoyle texted donor Eric Deters on July 3, 2025, days before her July 9 Senate confirmation hearing. She allegedly wrote that the money would not show up anywhere if wired directly to American Express.
Deters had sought her help with tax and legal matters. He told the Journal he did not make the payment. Guilfoyle’s lawyer, Jesse Binnall, disputed the authenticity of the messages but did not give specifics.
Democrats have sought a State Department review. Representative Gregory Meeks said Guilfoyle should be removed from the post if the allegations are accurate.
Guilfoyle, a former Fox News host and former fiancee of Donald Trump Jr., was confirmed as ambassador in September 2025.
