One year on, Trump’s Gaza plan has not stopped the fighting

A year after President Donald Trump announced his Gaza peace plan, the deal has stalled. Israel continues near-daily attacks and occupies around two-thirds of the shattered enclave, according to a Reuters assessment.
The first phase brought a ceasefire on October 10, 2025. The last living Israeli hostages came home, and hundreds of Palestinian prisoners were freed. Aid trucks surged into Gaza, and Israeli forces pulled back to a designated line.
But the later phases have not happened. Hamas has not disarmed, Israel has not withdrawn further, and rebuilding has not begun. Gaza’s health ministry says at least 1,400 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire. Five Israeli soldiers have also died, according to the Israeli military.
A new roadmap from the US-led Board of Peace proposes phased disarmament by Hamas tied to Israeli withdrawal. Hamas says it will not discuss disarmament until Israel fully implements phase one. Israel says it will not move forward without progress on disarmament.
What happens next depends on whether both sides accept the new roadmap. For now, the plan remains a promise on paper.
