Rahul, Priyanka detained amid CEC protest in Delhi

Delhi Police detained Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and several opposition MPs during protests against the Election Commission on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi scaled a police barricade on Parliament Street waving the national flag before he was taken into custody near Akashvani Bhavan. Priyanka Gandhi was filmed climbing a gate to reach her brother. The leaders were later released. On Wednesday, the INDIA bloc MPs were stopped en route to Jantar Mantar and held a sit-in outside a hotel on Janpath. Rahul Gandhi declared that Gyanesh Kumar will have to resign. The protest targets the Commission’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The opposition claims the exercise deleted over 130 million names and benefits the BJP. The Election Commission said no meeting was formally requested until late in the day and rejected the proposed Parliament Annexe venue. Permission was restricted to 30 MPs entering the Commission’s office, while over 200 had assembled. FIRs were filed after Tuesday’s scuffle. The row follows an Indian Express report of divisions inside the poll body.
