Mohun Bagan beat East Bengal 1-0 to win IFA Shield

Mohun Bagan Super Giant beat arch-rivals East Bengal 1-0 in the IFA Shield final on Thursday in Kolkata, with Samir Zeljkovic scoring the winner in the 44th minute.
The triumph sealed the club’s 23rd IFA Shield title. East Bengal improved after the break, bringing on Lukasz Zwolinski at half-time, but Mohun Bagan’s defence held firm. Zwolinski’s best chances came in the 67th and 88th minutes, one saved by goalkeeper Vishal Kaith and the other headed wide.
Mohun Bagan made defensive changes of their own, bringing on Liston Colaco and Anirudh Thapa to protect the lead. East Bengal pushed long balls into the box in the closing stages but found no way through.
For East Bengal, it was another frustrating evening against their city rivals after their 4-1 victory over Mohun Bagan in the Durand Cup final earlier this season. For Mohun Bagan, Zeljkovic’s first-half strike delivered the trophy and another memorable chapter in the Kolkata derby.
