Everton’s Sherif fined £5,000 over FA betting breaches

Everton forward Martin Sherif has been fined £5,000 after admitting breaches of the Football Association’s betting rules over a 15-month period, the FA said on Thursday.
The 20-year-old, who is yet to make a senior appearance for the Premier League club, admitted responsibility for 61 bets being placed on football matches between November 20, 2024 and February 12, 2026. In mitigation, he maintained he had not personally placed any of the wagers.
An independent regulatory commission imposed the sanction, considering mitigating factors including Sherif’s early admission of guilt after charges were brought in August, his cooperation with the investigation and his genuine remorse. Six betting accounts in his name were identified, with stakes worth £1,974.77 placed.
FA rules prohibit players from betting directly or indirectly on football matches. Sherif, a Netherlands youth international, joined Everton’s academy in 2019 and spent last season on loan at Rotherham United and Port Vale.
