Monsoon Withdraws Further From Telangana, Dry Weather Ahead

The southwest monsoon withdrew further from Telangana on Thursday, the India Meteorological Department said, with dry weather likely across the state for the next three days.
The withdrawal line in Telangana now passes through Tandur, Vikarabad, Hyderabad, Jangaon and Bhupalpally. The monsoon also retreated from remaining parts of Maharashtra and parts of Goa, Karnataka, Odisha, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
The IMD has forecast dry conditions on October 8, 9 and 10, with no weather warnings for Telangana. A separate bulletin extends the no-warning outlook through October 14.
The season ended with a deficit. Telangana received 615.5 mm of rain between June and September against a normal of 740.6 mm, a shortfall of 17 percent. Eighteen of the state’s 33 districts recorded deficient rainfall.
Water storage reflects the weak season. As of October 3, 17,677 of 21,500 monitored minor irrigation tanks held less than half their capacity, with combined storage at about 94.30 TMCft of 253.80 TMCft.
The withdrawal marks the seasonal transition toward the northeast monsoon over the southern peninsula.
