OpenAI Codex Day-1 Pledge: Output Speed Up 50%

OpenAI has begun its promised 28 days of Codex upgrades, with day one delivering a roughly 50 percent speed boost to its GPT-6 Astra and 6.1 Sol coding models for subscribers.
The pledge commits the company to a daily improvement or feature for Codex across four weeks. Day two made automatic code review free, and day three opened GPT-6 access to all users.
The cadence is unusual for a frontier AI lab and signals how competitive the coding-assistant market has become. Rivals have been shipping fast, and OpenAI is using the daily drumbeat to hold attention.
For developers, the speed gains matter. Faster model output shortens the feedback loop when iterating on code, which is the core promise of AI pair programming.
Whether OpenAI can sustain 28 days of meaningful upgrades is an open question. The early days have focused on speed and access, the easiest wins.
The industry will be watching whether the later days bring deeper capability jumps or taper into minor tweaks.
