Google Labs Playground turns AI prompts into playable games

Google Labs on Wednesday launched Playground, an experimental platform that turns natural-language prompts into playable browser games without any coding. Users aged 18 and older in the US can start with a blank canvas, remix a starter prompt, or follow guided assistance. They can then tweak physics, rewrite rules, customize characters and overhaul environments through a conversational interface, testing the result immediately. Finished games run in the browser on phones and laptops. They can stay private, be shared through a link, or be published to the Playground Explore gallery, where players can rate games. Some genres support multiplayer, and integration with Google Play Games adds leaderboards. Google says Playground uses its Gemini, Nano Banana and Lyria models with a custom harness. Published games go through safety screening. Google also previewed a deeper Unity Spark integration, planned for later in 2026, that would add professional-level mechanics and high-fidelity 3D through the Unity runtime.
