IMD issues yellow alert in 8 Uttarakhand districts; snowfall likely

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for eight districts of Uttarakhand. Moderate to heavy rain is expected with thunderstorms and lightning. Winds of 30 to 40 kmph are likely. Areas above 4,200 metres could see snowfall.
The alert covers Dehradun, Haridwar, Tehri, Pauri Garhwal, Almora, Nainital, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar. Light to moderate rain is expected in all other districts of the state.
Dehradun saw heavy rain on October 6. Sahasradhara Road recorded 47 mm of rain. Waterlogging was reported in low-lying areas. Maldevta and Mussoorie also received heavy rain.
The wet spell follows the withdrawal of the monsoon from the state. A western disturbance is driving the change. Tourists and residents have been advised to check weather updates before travelling to the hills.
The Char Dham yatra routes pass through several of the alerted districts. Pilgrims have been asked to check the weather before travelling. The state disaster management authority is on alert. District officials have been told to stay prepared. Heavy rain can trigger landslides in the hills. The IMD will issue fresh updates if the situation worsens.
