World No.1 Jannik Sinner ends season early with knee injury

Jannik Sinner has ended his 2026 season early. The world No.1 announced the decision on October 6. He is suffering from knee inflammation. He has not played since Wimbledon in July.
Sinner last played on July 12, when he beat Alexander Zverev in the Wimbledon final. He will now miss the Shanghai and Paris Masters. He will also miss the ATP Finals in Turin and the Davis Cup.
The injury is a blow to the season’s final events. Zverev has closed in on the No.1 ranking after winning the French and US Opens. The year-end No.1 race is now wide open.
Sinner said he will target a return at the Australian Open, which starts on January 17. Carlos Alcaraz missed four and a half months earlier this year with a wrist injury. Sinner’s team says he needs full rest to recover properly.
Sinner has won multiple Grand Slam titles in his career. His absence changes the ATP Finals race. Other top players will now fight for the year-end title. The Davis Cup ties in November will also feel his absence.
