Mamdani Booed at Oct 7 Vigil After Gaza Genocide Remark

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani was booed and heckled at a candlelight vigil in Union Square on Wednesday night marking the third anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attacks.
More than 100 anti-Israel protesters marched from City Hall to the Israelis for Peace vigil. Some waved Hamas and Hezbollah flags and chanted traitor and shame on you, accusing the mayor of genocide, according to the New York Post and Fox News.
Mamdani stood with a candle and remained stoic, alongside former city comptroller Brad Lander.
Earlier in the day, Mamdani’s anniversary statement had called the Hamas attacks horrific war crimes, noting that more than 1,100 Israelis were killed and 251 abducted. It also accused Israel of an ongoing genocide in Gaza, citing more than 74,000 Palestinian deaths, including over 21,000 children.
The statement drew backlash from Jewish leaders. Israel’s UN ambassador Danny Danon compared it to turning September 11 into a day of mourning for al-Qaeda.
