Claude Haiku 5.5 explained: Anthropic’s fastest, cheapest AI

Anthropic launched Claude Haiku 5.5 on 7 October. It is the third model in its Claude 5.5 series, after Opus 5.5 and Sonnet 5.5.
Haiku is Anthropic's line of fast, low-cost models. They are built for speed and high-volume use.
The new model costs $0.10 per million input tokens. Output tokens cost $0.50 per million for smaller prompts.
That is about 75 percent cheaper than the previous Haiku.
It comes with a 1-million-token context window. The earlier Haiku 4.5 had 200,000.
That means it can read far larger documents in one go.
It is also the first Haiku with an adjustable effort setting.
Users can choose between lower cost and higher intelligence for each task.
Such models suit customer support chatbots and coding help. They fit any task that runs millions of times a day.
The launch comes ahead of Anthropic's planned IPO. The AI pricing wars are heating up.
