MRF’s tax demand cut to Rs 36.19 crore in old dispute

MRF Ltd has received relief in a long-running tax dispute. A rectification order has cut the demand from Rs 91.53 crore to Rs 36.19 crore.
The case relates to Central Sales Tax assessments for financial year 2014-15. It concerns export clearances and declaration forms.
The dispute was first disclosed as material litigation on 14 August 2023. It was before the Deputy Commissioner, Commercial Taxes, Kottayam.
On the company's rectification application dated 29 April 2021, the Deputy Commissioner State Tax, Pala, Kerala, passed the order.
The order is dated 30 September 2026. MRF received it on 6 October 2026, the company said in a filing.
The company said it is examining the order. It will take an appropriate decision on challenging the remaining demand.
The dispute is therefore not over yet.
MRF has had other tax wins this year. In May 2026, the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal gave it relief on demands for assessment years 2015-16 and 2016-17. The tribunal reduced them to nil on major grounds, according to Autocar Professional.
