DNC Sues Trump Over Taxpayer-Funded Ads

The Democratic National Committee has sued the Trump administration over television advertisements it says are illegal government propaganda.
The lawsuit was filed on Wednesday in the US District Court for the District of Columbia. It names Trump, the White House Office, the Office of Management and Budget and the Department of Homeland Security.
The complaint says the ads promoted Trump’s political message while costing taxpayers millions of dollars. It asks the court to declare them illegal and stop the funding.
The spots began airing in September. They have cost more than $12 million to run, according to tracking firm AdImpact.
A total of $20 million in Homeland Security Department funding has been tapped to pay for them.
Trump said on Monday that his MAGA Inc super PAC would pay for the ads going forward. But on Tuesday, a fifth ad still aired with a “paid for by the US Government” notice.
Trump has not committed to reimbursing the money already spent.
The White House calls the spots public service announcements. A separate lawsuit was filed by watchdog group Common Cause on the same day.
