Man City Inquiry Moves To Appeal Stage After Guilty Findings

Manchester City’s case over alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules has moved to the appeal stage.
An independent Commission found the club guilty of all charges related to serious breaches of the league’s financial rules over a nine-season period. It also upheld the majority of charges about failure to co-operate with the investigation.
The charges were first brought against City in 2023. They relate to the period between 2009 and 2018.
The Premier League confirmed the findings in an official statement on Tuesday.
City lodged a comprehensive appeal at 7pm on Thursday, October 1. The club said the Commission’s opinion contains “clear material errors” of law, principle and fact.
The club maintains it is innocent. It said a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence supports its position.
The Football Association said the decision has significant implications for the integrity of the game. It is considering what happens next.
The club’s chairman has said the process still has a long way to run.
