The National Lotteries Commission has granted Cricket South Africa R65,645,092.30 for stadium upgrades ahead of the 2027 Cricket World Cup.
The ceremonial cheque handover took place at Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town.
The investment will support nine venues across six provinces. It will fund permanent stadium infrastructure, broadcast and media facilities, safety improvements and specialist ground equipment.
The nine grounds include all eight South African venues that will host matches during the 2027 World Cup. These are Newlands, Boland Park, St George’s Park, Buffalo Park, Mangaung Oval, Kingsmead, SuperSport Park and the Wanderers Stadium.
The JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom will also benefit from the investment.
Planned improvements at Newlands include a new secondary scoreboard, an ICC command centre, upgraded seating, refurbished changing rooms and a new sound and evacuation system.
The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 is scheduled from October 4 to November 21, 2027. It will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
