Oracle, Broadcom, SpaceX seek billions in debt for AI chips

Oracle, Broadcom and SpaceX are seeking tens of billions of dollars in debt to pay for AI chips. The Wall Street Journal reported the deals on October 7.
Broadcom is working to arrange more than $50 billion in financing. The money would fund custom AI chips it is developing with OpenAI. The talks are early and the size could change.
Oracle is in discussions with Apollo and Goldman Sachs about funding a large chip purchase. The financing would bridge the gap between paying for hardware and earning cloud revenue. Oracle may avoid borrowing itself by leasing chips through a separate company.
SpaceX has spoken with lenders about roughly $40 billion in financing tied to Nvidia chips, the Financial Times reported. The money would support its AI infrastructure build-out.
For years, big tech paid for servers from cash flow. That is no longer enough as AI costs explode. The deals show how the AI build-out is pushing buyers beyond the public bond market.
