Indian sailor injured as drone hits cargo ship in Black Sea

An Indian sailor was injured after a Russian drone struck the Turkish-owned cargo vessel MV Royad Mammadov in the Black Sea on October 5.
Three Indian nationals were aboard the ship. Two foreign crew members were killed in the attack, which took place outside Romania's territorial waters. The vessel caught fire and later sank.
The injured Indian seafarer is being treated at Constanta County Hospital in Romania and is reported to be stable. The Indian embassy in Romania said it is in close touch with the hospital and the crew.
India strongly condemned the attack, calling strikes on civilian commercial shipping "completely unacceptable". External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said dialogue and diplomacy remain India's preferred path.
In a separate incident on Tuesday, a tanker near Sochi was hit by suspected Ukrainian naval drones. All 23 crew members, who were Indian nationals, were rescued safely by Russian authorities.
The Indian mission said it will keep monitoring the sailors' welfare and coordinate with Romanian authorities.
