Rahul Gandhi detention row: what the CEC protest is about

Rahul Gandhi has been detained repeatedly during two days of opposition protests against the Election Commission. Here is what the row is about.
The INDIA bloc alleges irregularities in the poll body's functioning under Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and opposes the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, calling it "vote chori". The opposition says revised voter lists benefit the BJP, a charge the commission and the BJP deny.
On October 6, opposition MPs marched towards the Election Commission office and staged a nine-hour sit-in outside Akashvani Bhawan after being stopped; police later registered an FIR. On October 7, MPs launched an unannounced protest near Jantar Mantar and were detained again, then released after about two hours.
Congress leader KC Venugopal called the police action an attack on the Constitution and said the campaign will continue until Kumar is removed. The Congress has called for protests across states on October 8, observing a "Black Day" for democracy. The Supreme Court has also agreed to hear arguments on the voter-roll revision row.
